[Spanish version]

Cuando Pedro nos dijo el jueves “Do you have any plan for this weekend?” no me esperaba para nada un fin de semana así. ¿Un torneo de Ultimate frisbee? ¿Por qué no? No tengo ni idea de jugar, pero me apunto. Laura, que no pudo acompañarnos, ya me advirtió de lo bien que me lo iba a pasar, pero yo no sabía qué esperar, nunca había estado en ningún torneo así, así que la sorpresa fue aún mayor.

Quedamos a las 7.30 am para ir a Nombre-impronunciable-del-pueblo, en Austria. Demasiado pronto, a esas horas éramos solo un equipo de zombies, pero nos recuperamos rápidamente cuando llegamos gracias al desayuno que ofrecían. Ya no quedó más remedio que ponernos en marcha para los partidos.

El primer partido contra Mosquitos para mí fue una de las mayores sorpresas, un partido de verdad, no un entrenamiento. Para empezar, yo esperaba que a este torneo fuéramos más jugadores, no solo 9, por lo que todos íbamos a jugar bastante más de lo que pensaba. Fue un partido intenso que nos sirvió principalmente para centrarnos y empezar a acostumbrarnos a jugar entre los que estábamos. Siempre se cometen fallos, pero esto era el comienzo, y podemos decir que fue el único partido que perdimos y fue contra los que después quedarían 1º en el torneo.

En el segundo partido empatamos contra Flying Circus. A medida que jugábamos más, íbamos entrando en situación y progresando. El tercero, contra Twist und Trink, lo ganamos por unos 6 puntos. Y el cuarto partido, contra Nitro Circles, también lo ganamos, así que nos fuimos con ánimo a prepararnos para la cena. En general los partidos fueron muy intensos y divertidos. Siento no poder dar detalles “técnicos”, pero tengo mala memoria para esas cosas y aún sigo sin tener ni idea de jugar al Ultimate frisbee, así que poco más puedo decir, sólo que cada partido me gustaba más que el anterior.

Después nos duchamos (algunos acompañados por la ginebra) y nos fuimos a la cena. Fue una aventura llegar hasta el restaurante, discutiendo dónde estaba el norte y perdiendo a gente por el camino, pero finalmente conseguimos llegar para ponernos ciegos de comida. Allí mismo nos dimos los regalos de Navidad y estuvimos bailando, con purpurina y una Lady Gaga incluidas. Fue muy divertido estar todos juntos bailando y jugando en la mesa a “Chin chon…”, y lo mejor de todo es que, como íbamos con horario austríaco (similar al eslovaco), la cena fue a las 19.30 y a la 1 estábamos metiéndonos en el saco para dormir.

El domingo nuestros partidos empezaban a las 11.55, así que pudimos dormir todo lo que quisimos y ver algunos partidos desde la “cama”. El primero que jugamos, contra Spezi, empatamos (11:11). Fue un buen partido, aunque aún teníamos que acabar de despertarnos. El segundo lo ganamos contra Twist und Trink, conocidos del día anterior, pero aun así no se dejaron ganar fácilmente (12:8). Y el último partido, contra amPullen, fue realmente emocionante. Estuvo muy igualado durante todo el partido, y como al acabar el tiempo estábamos empatados, jugamos hasta que conseguimos marcar un último punto, ganando así 13:12. Fue un partido muy bonito y que nos permitió volver a casa con buen sabor de boca.

Finalmente nos duchamos, vimos los últimos partidos mientras nos comíamos la tarta y recogimos nuestro certificado de 9º puesto en el torneo (junto con plátanos, manzanas y vino). Y aunque volvimos más tarde de lo normal (según dicen) a Bratislava, da gusto tumbarse en la cama y no poder moverse.

En resumen, ha sido un fin de semana estupendo: ultimate frisbee, comida, bebida, fiesta y muy buenos momentos. Personalmente, volví encantada, no sabía qué esperar del misterioso torneo antes de ir, y me lo pasé muy bien. Además he aprendido bastante y he disfrutado mucho de este deporte “para perros”. Quiero destacar sobre todo el buen ambiente que hay entre los jugadores, entre los equipos y con cualquier persona que esté dispuesta a lanzar un disco. Creo que casi todos los deportes tienen mucho que aprender del Ultimate frisbee en este aspecto.

Y para acabar sólo quiero dar las gracias a los organizadores del torneo, a todos los equipos que fueron, pero sobre todo a Outsiterz por acogerme y darme la oportunidad de disfrutar con vosotros. ¡Muchas gracias!

When Pedro asked us on Thursday if we had any plan for the weekend, I didn’t expect a weekend like this one at all. An Ultimate Frisbee tournament? Why not? I have no idea about how to play this game, but I will join you! Laura, who couldn’t come with us, had told me how nice these tournaments were, but I didn’t know what to expect, I had never been in such a tournament, so for me the surprise would be even bigger.

We met at 7.30 am to go to Impossible-to-pronounce-village, in Austria. It was too early, at that time we were only a zombie team, but we quickly woke up with the great breakfast that they offered there. So we started to get ready for the games.

The first game against Mosquitos was one of the greatest surprises for me, a real game, not only training. Mainly because I didn’t know that we were only 9 of us going to the tournament, so we had to play more than I had expected. It was an intense game in which we started to get used to play between us. We made some mistakes, of course, but it was just the beginning, and we can be proud that it was the only game that we lost, and it was against the ones who would become winners at the end of the tournament.

The second game was draw against Flying Circus. As we played more games, we were getting better. We won the third game against Twist und Trink, and also the fourth one against Nitro Circles, so we went cheerfully to get ready for the party. In general all the games were very exciting and intense. I’m sorry that I cannot give more “technical” details, but I have bad memory and I still don’t understand this sport, so I can only say that I enjoyed each game much more than the previous one.

Then we had a shower (with gin) and went to have dinner. It was real fun to walk to the restaurant, trying to guess where the North was, while some people got lost, but finally we were able to get there and eat a lot of really nice food. In the same place we gave the Christmas presents and we danced a lot, with glitter and Lady Gaga too. It was very nice to be all together dancing and playing “chin chon…”. And as we had had dinner at 19.30 like Austrian (or Slovak) people, at 1am we were ready to go to sleep.

On Sunday our games started at 11.55, so we had plenty of time to sleep and watch some games while we were still in “bed”. Our first game against Spezi was draw (11:11), it was a good game but we still needed to wake up. We won the second game against Twist und Trink, we knew them from the day before, and nevertheless it wasn’t an easy victory. The last game against amPullen was very exciting: when the time was over the game was draw, so we continued playing until we scored the last point and won 13:12. It was a very good last game to finish our tournament.

After that we had a shower, watched the last games while eating the cake and we got our 9th place diploma (and also bananas, apples and wine).

We got to Bratislava quite late, but it was very nice to lie in my bed and not be able to move any more.

In conclusion, it was a great weekend: Ultimate Frisbee, food, drinks, party and very nice time with people. In my opinion, I didn’t know what to expect before getting there, but I was really surprised and I am very happy that I went. I think I have learnt a lot and enjoyed this “dog’s sport”. I loved especially the great spirit that all players and teams had, and I think that other sports should learn a lot about this.
